Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade
SPECIFIC TRADE CONCERNS IN THE TBT COMMITTEE
Proposal from Canada
The following communication, dated 26 May 2009, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Canada. _______________
BACKGROUND
The Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade was established with one of its key aims being to enable Members to consult on any matters related to the operation of the Agreement. Requests to include specific trade concerns on the agenda should be accompanied by a brief outline of the concern or a reference to the specific TBT notification to be raised as follows:
For measures that have been notified, the notification number should be included.
It will also allow Members, who are not party to as specific trade concern to familiarize themselves with concerns to be raised and the order in which they are to be discussed; consider the broader implications of such and participate in discussions.
Advance notice will also facilitate the enhanced participation of developing countries which may face greater human resource constraints by providing the necessary time for delegations to familiarize themselves with specific trade concerns to be raised.
