Korea offers USD 350,000 to the WTO training programme for developing countries

Korea has donated USD 350,000 (about CHF 340,000) to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF). This last donation brings Korea's total contribution to WTO trust funds to CHF 3.6 million since 2002.

This donation will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to enhance their ability to participate effectively in the WTO negotiations and ensure they fully benefit from the results achieved during these negotiations.

"I welcome this new donation which demonstrates Korea's commitment to help developing countries fully benefit from the multilateral trading system and better integrate in the global economy", declared WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.

The Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu
offers USD80,000 to assist developing countries in improving health and sanitary standards
Chinese Taipei has donated USD80,000 (CHF80,200) to the Standards and Trade Development Facility trust fund (STDF). This is Chinese Taipei's first donation to this fund. Chinese Taipei's overall contribution to the WTO trust funds has reached USD1.1 million.

The STDF was set up to help developing countries improve their expertise and their capacity to analyse and implement international standards on food safety, animal and plant health. The STDF is a joint initiative of the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the World Organization for Animal Health, and the Food and Agriculture Organization.

The European Communities donated EUR1.25 million to WTO development programmes

The European Communities (EC) has donated
EUR1.25 million (about CHF1.9 million) to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF) and the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF).


This assistance is intended to build the capacity of developing and least developed countries to negotiate effectively within the WTO and help implement WTO agreements and international standards. These are areas that are key to protecting the trade interests and development needs of the world’s poorest countries.


A first donation of EUR1 million (about CHF1.5 million)
was offered to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund. This contribution will be used to finance WTO technical assistance activities targeted especially at the needs of developing and least-developed countries, as well as economies in transition.
