SEVENTH SESSION OF THE MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

Decision of 26 May 2009


Taking account of the obligations set out in Article IV, paragraph 1, of the WTO Agreement, the General Council decides that the Seventh Session of the Ministerial Conference shall be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 30 November to 2 December 2009.
The general theme for discussion at the Seventh Session shall be "The WTO, the Multilateral Trading System and the Current Global Economic Environment".
The Chairman of the General Council is requested to undertake all necessary action to prepare the Seventh Session in consultation with Members and in co-operation with the Director-General and the Swiss authorities.

SEVENTH MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

Communication from Uruguay


The following communication, dated 28 April 2009 and addressed to the Chairman of the General Council, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of Uruguay.

In accordance with the instructions given to the General Council by the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the WTO (WT/MIN(05)/SR/12) I would be grateful if the following items could be included in the agenda of the next meeting of the General Council, scheduled for 27 May 2009:

1. Date and venue of the Seventh Session of the Ministerial Conference

Article IV:1 of the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization states that "[t]here shall be a Ministerial Conference composed of representatives of all the Members, which shall meet at least once every two years."

I HAVE THE HONOUR TO INFORM YOU THAT, AS AGREED BY THE GENERAL COUNCIL, THE SEVENTH SESSION OF THE MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND ON 30 NOVEMBER – 2 DECEMBER 2009.
THE PROVISIONAL AGENDA FOR THE SESSION IS BEING CIRCULATED TO DELEGATIONS IN DOCUMENT WT/MIN(09)/W/2, AS PROVIDED FOR IN RULE 3 OF THE RULES OF PROCEDURE FOR SESSIONS OF THE MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE (WT/L/161).
MEMBERS OF THE WTO AND OTHER GOVERNMENTS WITH OBSERVER STATUS AND INTERNATIONAL INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WITH OBSERVER STATUS ARE INVITED TO INFORM THE SECRETARIAT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OF THE NAMES OF THEIR REPRESENTATIVES WHO WILL ATTEND THE MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE.
CREDENTIALS AUTHORIZING REPRESENTATIVES OF MEMBERS TO PERFORM THE FUNCTIONS INDICATED IN THE WTO AGREEMENT, AS PROVIDED FOR IN RULE 9 OF THE RULES OF PROCEDURE, SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE SECRETARIAT NOT LATER T
