AGREEMENT ON IMPORT LICENSING PROCEDURES

Notification under Article 5.

The retreading of used tyres has no negative effect on the environment because the retreading of used tyres is a result of the science of environmental studies which involves monitoring of the reuse of these tyres to ensure that it does not cause environmental pollution.

Specifically, this proposed amendment will increase the number of characters in the tyre date code from three to four; two characters which indicate the week of manufacture of the tyre and two which indicate the year of manufacture of the tyre.

One alternative would require that the driver be warned when the tyre pressure in one or more tyres, up to a total of 4 tyres, has fallen to 20 per cent or more below the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended cold inflation pressure for the vehicle’s tyres, or a minimum level of pressure to be specified in the new standard, whichever is higher.

- proposal and basic documents (with specific reference number or other publication) to which proposal refers: automobile tyres and gas lighters are classified as pre-inspection of safety and must carry out safety inspection before being sold and lawn mowers are classified as post-inspection of safety.
EU, US, and Brazil are importing only safetycertified products and safety criteria varies from country to country.
- In the case of gas lighters, though safety criteria are different from country to country, the said product must carry out safety control by fixing safety devices.
