Importation of Whole Cuts of Boneless Beef From Japan: Final Rule
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is
amending the regulations governing the importation of meat and other edible animal products by allowing under certain conditions, the importation of whole cuts of boneless beef from Japan. APHIS is taking this action in response to a request from the Government of Japan and after conducting a risk analysis and considering public comments. This action will allow the importation of beef from Japan while continuing to protect against the introduction of bovine spongiform encephalopathy into the United States.

Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1436 – 1-Methylcyclopropene)
Under authority of the Pest Control Products Act, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), of Health Canada, has approved an application for the registration of the pesticide 1-methylcyclopropene as a plant growth regulator in apples in post-harvest treatment. This regulatory amendment will establish a Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) under the Food and Drugs Act for residues of 1-methylcyclopropene resulting from this use in apples, in order to permit the sale of food containing these residues.

Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1419 - Glufosinate-ammonium)
This regulatory amendment will establish (
Maximum Residue Limits)
MRLs for residues of glufosinate-ammonium and its metabolite in imported cottonseed oil and rice, and amend the MRL for soybeans, in order to permit the import and sale of food containing these residues. The amendment will also establish MRLs in eggs; fat, meat and meat by-products of cattle, goats, hogs, poultry and sheep; and milk to cover residues in food derived from animals fed with crops treated with glufosinate-ammonium.

Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1225 - Food Additives)
Provision currently exists in the Food and Drug Regulations for the use of the enzymes alpha-amylase, glucoamylase, glucose isomerase, maltogenic amylase, pectinase and pullulanase in a wide variety of foods. The micro-organisms used to produce these enzymes are also regulated under Division 16 of Part B of these Regulations.
Health Canada has received submissions to permit the use of these enzymes produced from new genetically modified source micro-organisms, as indicated in the Regulations.

Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1063 - Carrageenan in Infant Formula)
Provision currently exists in the Food and Drug Regulations for the use of carrageenan in different infant formula products. This amendment to the Regulations permits the use of carrageenan in lactose-free infant formula based on milk protein at a maximum level of 0.05 per cent.

Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1346 — Maximum Residue Limits for Veterinary Drugs)
These amendments to the Regulations establish safe limits for residues of the veterinary drugs ceftiofur, monensin, pirlimycin and teflubenzuron in foods originating from animals treated with these particular drugs.
These veterinary drugs are an important tool in the production of healthy animals which are destined for use as food.

Colombia wishes to report to the international community through the Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures its experiences in regionalization, particularly regarding foot and mouth disease (FMD), and the difficulties encountered:
